Neutron diffraction methods are frequently used for in-situ chracterization of structural materials under extreme external conditions such as high or low temperature, deformation, high presure, etc. Due to a high penetration ability of thermal neutrons, this probe can easily enter the corresponding uaxiliary experimental equipment like furnaces, cryostats and high pressure cell, respectively. These experimental methods have found many useful applications in solid state physics, chemistry an biology. Multiphase materials and composites are particularly interesting subjects for such kind of experiments because the microstructural characteristics could often be determined for each individual components yielding thus a scheme of their interaction in deformation process. Moreover, the intersities of individual diffraction profiles could be associated with volume fractions yielding thus information on transformation kinetics.
Neutronové difrakční studie prováděné in situ v průběhu kombinovaného termomechanického namáhání přináší mimořádně cenné informace o odezvě studované mikrostruktury. Jsou popsány dva aplikační příklady, nízkocyklová únava duplexních ocelí a fázové transformace v Si-Mn TRIP ocelích.
