Vietnamská imigrace do Československa začala rokem 1950, v 80. letech vzrostla až na 35 tisíc. Odhady pro současnost jsou dvojnásobné. Po roce 1990 se jejich existence vyvíjí ve dvou protichůdných tendencích:(1) pokračuje jejich etnická a sociální izolace od majority, (2) na druhé straně ale působí přirozená nutnost otevřené praktické komunikace v oblasti podnikání s institucemi a jednotlivci. V poslední třetině 90. let toto schéma přechází do svého vyššího stadia: (1)izolace přechází v ghettizaci a (2) nutnost praktické komunikace s majoritou se transformuje nikoli v široký rámec integrace, nýbrž se projevuje vnitřní strukturalizací a autonomní stratifikací.

Vietnamese immigration to Czechoslovakia, started in the 1950s, in the 1980s increased, thanks to interstate treaties, up to 35 000 persons. Today, their number is estimated as double. After the year 1990 their existence developed in two contrasting directions: (1) continues their ethnical and social isolation from the majority of the population, (2) at the same time there exists the necessity of practical communication with the institutions of the majority in the field of business. In the last years, this scheme developed into a higher stage: (1) in the case of some of the communities, their isolation becomes ghettoization, while (2) the necessity of practical communication with the majority transforms itself not into a broader frame of integration, but into proceeding inner stratification.
