In this study, the explicit solvent Molecular Dynamics (MD) study on selected RNA K-turns was carried out. The MD simulations reveal the hinge-like K-turns motions on nanosecond time-scale. Crucial role in the K-turns flexibility play: the second A-minor interaction and motion of nominally unpaired bases, which directly regulate the large-scale motions of adjacent RNA helices. We suggest that K-turns are flexible ribosomal motifs mediating the large-scale ribosomal motions during protein synthesis cycle.
