In Handschriften zahlreicher europäischer Bibliotheken findet sich die Abschrift eines als Avicennae Canon abbreviatus bezeichneten medizinischen Kompendiums. Dasselbe Kompendium findet sich in den Handschriften der Nationalbibliothek der Tschechischen Republik in Prag (Hss I D 39, VIII C 8, I G 23), des Archives der Prager Burg – der Bibliothek des Prager Metropolitankapitels (Hss N 31, M 11) und des staatlichen Bezirksarchivs Chomutov mit Sitz in Kadaň (Hs. R 5). Die Abschriften in Hss N 31 (aus der 2. Hälfte des 14. Jahrhunderts) und I D 39 (aus den Jahren 1390-1410) sind die ältesten bisher identifizierten Exemplare dieses Werkes. Der vor allem an Mediziner adressierte Text war ursprünglich eine Vorlesung, die von einem unbekannten Pariser Arzt an der Universität Wien gehalten wurde. Dieser Text wurde in zwei Versionen im deutsch-tschechischen Sprachraum tradiert und gelangte später auch auf polnisches Territorium.

Copies of the medical compendium called Avicennae Canon abbreviatus are kept in numerous European libraries. The same text is also found in Prague National Library (mss I D 39, VIII C 8, I G 23), in Prague Castle Archive – the Library of the Prague Metropolitan Chapter (mss N 31, M 11) and in the State District Archive Chomutov in Kadaň (ms. R 5). The copies in the mss N 31 (second half of the 14th century) and I D 39 (from 1390-1410) are the oldest exemplars of the treatise that have been identified so far. The text, addressed primarily to students of medicine, originated from a lecture given by an unknown Parisian doctor at the University of Vienna. The text circulated in central European territory in two redactions.
