AnnotationAdvanced applications of producer gas (e.g. fuel cells, catalytic processes for liquid fuels production) require deep syngas cleaning. In this study, the physical and chemical properties of a commercial sorbent were analyzed by XRD, inductively-coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and surface area (BET) apparatus. The main components of the commercial sorbent are ZnO, CuO and alumina. The sorbent has also high surface area (90.77m2/g) attributed to porous material. The commercial sorbent is used as a moderate-temperature desulfurization agent (300-600 oC) for H2S removal from syngas down to ppm levels in a fixed-bed reactor. The tests on original tablet form and powder between 30~50 mesh were carried out in the study. The results show that sulfur capacity and cycle testing of the powder are better than those of tablets. The H2S removal properties seem to be promising for application in clean coal technology field.
