Description in English Ten biblical allegorical plays occupy a small, but important sector of the extensive Dutch literary production of the humanist Dirck Volckertszoon Coornhert (1522–1590). The first aim of Coornhert's characteristic biblical exegesis was to give a moral instruction. Secondly, he also wanted to support the irenical political efforts of William of Orange.
