Deset biblických alegorických her tvoří malou, ale významnou část rozsáhlé nizozemsky psané tvorby humanisty Dircka Volckertszoona Coornherta (1522–1590). Hlavním cílem Coornhertovy svérázné biblické exegeze je morální poučení. Chtěl však také vyjádřit podporu irenickým politickým snahám Viléma Oranžského.

Ten biblical allegorical plays occupy a small, but important sector of the extensive Dutch literary production of the humanist Dirck Volckertszoon Coornhert (1522–1590). The first aim of Coornhert's characteristic biblical exegesis was to give a moral instruction. Secondly, he also wanted to support the irenical political efforts of William of Orange.
