Description in English The chapter discusses Karel Dostal’s productions of the Greek tragedy, analyzes the transformation of his approach in cultural and historical contexts. Influences of Nietzsche’s thoughts about the Greek tragedy and the causes of the later Dostal’s inclination to “Winckelmann’s antiquity” are presented in the study. The ideal of the so-called “white classics”, however, was innovated in hís productions, and sometimes it also fulfilled a subversive role. It is presented in the chapter that Dostal’s relationship to Greek drama was born at the time of his early career as an actor in German theaters, and he returned to Greek tragedy periodically to the end of his work at the National Theater: Aechylus’ Oresteia was his last major production at the NT.
