Their mesomorphic behaviour was studied using optical polarising microscopy, DSC, and electrooptic methods. Structures of mesophases were identified by X-ray diffraction and parameters established. In the case of one thiophene unit in molecular arm we succeeded in preparation of mesogenic bent-shaped material with various lateral substitutions on the central naphthalene core and character of the terminal chain.
