AnnotationHigher moisture content of biomass causes operational problems in biomass combustion/gasification and higher emissions. In this review various technological schemes for wood drying in combination with combustion/gasification are compared. VOC emissions from the drying process depend on the drying temperature, residence time, drying medium (flue gas, air, superheated steam) particle size distribution, content of resins and final moisture of the dried biomass.
