Profesor Horáček je znám nejen místně v Česku, ale i za hranicemi jako výjimečný zoolog a paleontolog se specializací na žijící a fosilní letouny a drobné savce. Jeho osobnost má široké rozpětí zájmů a to nejen v biologii (včetně evoluční biologie), ale ve filosofii a dalších vědních disciplínách. Během jeho kariéry se specializoval i na fosilní záznam klimatických změn a s tím spojené reorganizace faun během kenozoika.

Professor Ivan Horáček is renowned both locally in the Czech Republic and internationally as an outstanding zoologist and palaeontologist specialized in living and fossil Chiroptera and small mammals. He is a person with a wide range of interests not only in biology (including evolutionary developmental biology), but also in philosophy and other scientific disciplines. During his career, he focused his attention also on the fossil record of climate changes and related faunal rearrangements during the Quaternary and also during pre-Quaternary periods. The presented texts were written by his close colleagues belonging to several generations.
