Within the study of miniature paintings by combination of non-destructive spectroscopic and diffraction techniques (X-ray fluorescence, infrared spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction), unusual patterns of crystalline metal carboxylates together with the red pigment cinnabar (HgS) were detected.
