Ačkoliv většina mayských badatelů se domnívá, že Mayové Merkur nepozorovali, nám se podařilo nalézt v Drážďanském kodexu 13 dat, která se evidentně k Merkuru vztahují. Jde o data maximálních elongací Merkuru od Slunce, kdy je Merkur nejlépe pozorovatelný. Nalezená data se od skutečnosti liší pouze o několik dní, což je plně v souladu s přesností pozorování pouhým okem bez úhloměrného zařízení.

Although most of Mayan researchers think that the Maya did not observe Mercury, we succeeded in finding 13 dates in Dresden Codex that evidently concern Mercury. They are the dates of Mercury's greatest elongations from the Sun, when Mercury is best observable. The dates that we found differ from reality by only a few days, which is in full accordance with the accuracy of observation with naked eye, without any angular measuring instrument.
