Kniha přináší dvanáct sond věnovaných jednotlivým tématům dotýkajících se různým způsobem problematiky habitu českých vědců v letech 1918–1968 na příkladu dvou generací držitelů nejvyšších akademických hodností – první, jejíž kariéra vrcholila v meziválečné éře, a druhá, která se prosadila během 50. a 60. let 20. století. Pozornost se soustředila na dětství a dospívání vědců, na kariérní postup, vědecké školy a vztahy učitel-žák, na otázky manželství, ekonomického kapitálu vědců, na mezinárodní kontext habitu, téma interdisciplinarity, roli vědeckých ústavů a společností, veřejné a politické činnosti vědců, volného času, oslavy životních jubileí vědců i na jejich pohřby a také na obraz vědce ve filmu a televizní tvorbě.

This book presents twelve surveys on individual topics variously dealing with issues surrounding the habitus of Czech scientists and scholars from 1918 to 1968, based on the example of two generations of holders of the highest academic ranks – the first, whose career peaked during the interwar period, and the second, who fully established themselves during the 1950s and 1960s. The focus was on childhood and adolescence of scientists, on career advancement, scientific schools and teacher-student relations, on marriage issues, economic capital of scientists, on the international context of habit, interdisciplinarity, the role of scientific institutes and societies, public and political activities of scientists, free time, celebrations of the life anniversaries of scientists and their funerals, as well as the image of the scientist in film and television.
