The chapter is devoted to a specific form of contemporary biopolitics and its historical genesis. It distinguishes the new, neoliberal biopolitics from its historical predecessor - biopolitics of the nineteenth and of the first half of the twentieth century, which focused on bigger units - populations, classes, nations. Neoliberal biopolitics on the other hand focuses on individuals, resp. on smaller unities like families, whose gene pool it seeks to enhance through rehabilitated eugenics. The text attempts to conceive this transformation in the larger context of the modifications of the capitalism at the end of the twentieth century. By doing so, it argues against the approaches, which try to defend the new, so called individualized eugenics with a reference to its moral and ethical acceptability.
