This article introduces controversies over regulation of subsidies according to EU Law. The knowledge of this area of law is important not only for public organs but also for sports sector when building environment of competing. The features of EU law and practice of EU Commission do not provide clear guidelines how to follow the requirements of European state aid and rules. It is about searching alternatives how to save a concrete sports culture, which does not have potential for big profits, but may be at crossroads whether granted subsidies might influence European market between undertakings (for example clubs in financial difficulties).
