Letní škola klasických studií se připojila k oslavám stoletého výročí vzniku Československé republiky. Zabývala se tedy různorodými antickými představami o nejlepším uspořádání věcí veřejných a jejich vlivem na uvažování o státu a právu v pozdějších epochách až do současnosti. Z jednotlivých příspěvků se účastníci dozvěděli, jak se idea státu měnila v závislosti na historických, náboženských i geografických okolnostech: od Platónovy představy státu spravovaného filozofy přes Ciceronův poněkud střízlivější koncept mírně vylepšené římské republiky a Augustinovy antagonistické představy Boží a pozemské obce až k moderním politickým ideálům. Stranou nezůstaly ani menšinové a konkurenční ideje, např. chiliastická hnutí, husité nebo zrození anarchismu. Jak byla v historii politická filosofie zneužívána ideologií? Jak dobová státní zřízení obhajovala svou autoritu a jak na to reagovali tvůrci teorií o „ideálním státě“? Tato a další témata byla sledována v oblasti filosofie, ale také mimo ni v umění a literatuře.

The Summer School of Classical Studies contributes to the commemoration of the centenary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia. The diverse ancient ideas of the best ordering of public affairs and their influence on thinking about state and law in later epochs up to the present will be addressed. The participants learned how the idea of the state has changed according to historical, religious and geographical circumstances: from Plato’s idea of a state ruled by philosophers to Cicero’s slightly more sober concept of the mildly improved Roman Republic and Augustin’s antagonistic ideas of the City of God and City of men. Marginalized and competitive ideas, such as Chiliastic movements, Hussites, or the birth of anarchism, will not left out either. How has political philosophy been abused by ideology in history? How did contemporary state systems defend their authority and how did the theories of the “ideal state” respond? These and similar issues will be pursued in the field of philosophy, but also outside it in art and literature.
