Referát se zaobírá vztahem Leoše Janáčka a jeho hudby k formě a žánru melodramu. Zaprvé upozorňuji na pozoruhodný aspekt janáčkovské recepce, totiž na fakt, že Janáčkově Její pastorkyni byly v době její brněnské i pražské premiéry několikrát přisuzovány vlastnosti melodramu. Zadruhé se zabývám jediným Janáčkovým pokusem o zkomponování koncertního melodramu, jímž je dnes nezvěstná skladba Smrt z roku 1876.

The paper deals with the relationship of Leoš Janáček and his music to the form and genre of melodrama. First of all, I draw attention to remarkable aspect of Janáček reception, namely the fact that the characteristics of melodrama were attributed to Janáček's opera Jenůfa at the time of its Brno and Prague premieres. Secondly, I deal with Janáček's single attempt to compose a concert melodrama, which is his 1876 composition named Death (Smrt), considered as lost today.
