New explicit design relations are proposed for setting the parameters of PI controllers, from the knowledge of three parameters: gain, average residence time, and normalized dead time, characterizing the process to be controlled. These parameters can be obtained from the process step response or from the closedloop response with any stabilizing PI controller.
