In this paper we reviewed our knowledge of demography patterns of Marsh fritillary (Euphydryas aurinia) within long term study in Bochov population and one year extended study across all known populations in western Bohemia. We revealed substantial turn over in extinctions and recolonisations among individual colonies and the time-shifted phenology at different altitudes of distribution area. Total population size was estimated to 25 000 individuals ( 16 000 males and 9 000 females) and average density reached 90 individuals per ha.
