Fracture behaviour of partially pyrolyzed at 650°C or 750°C unidirectional basalt fibre composites with polysiloxane matrix were under investigation. Fracture toughness determined at both room and elevated temperature was used as a main parameter to optimize heat treatment. All results were compared with the data of composite in cured only state at 250°C. The pull-out fracture mechanism employed in the fracture process was examined. Different degree of involvement and efficiency of the pull-out mechanism was found with respect to the pyrolysis temperature and/or testing temperature. Optical and scanning electron microscopy was used for fractographycal analysis.
