První část článku ukazuje, že předměty našeho vědeckého zájmu mohou být nahlíženy více než z jednoho referenčního rámce: to, jak popisujeme danou předmětnou oblast je vždy nutně ovlivněno přítomností konkrétního referenčního rámce. Z interního pohledu (čistě vzhledem ke vztahu daného referenčního rámce a z něj vnímané předmětné oblasti) jsou data o objektu získaná vnímáním stejného předmětu z pozic odlišných referenčních rámců kvalitativně ekvivalentní, vnitřně koherentní. O výběru „lepšího“ referenčního rámce proto mohou rozhodovat pouze kritéria externí. Druhá část článku ukazuje, jaká externí kritéria by měla být uvažována v případě lingvistiky. Jejich vhodným zdrojem je přijetí tzv. kognitivního závazku (cognitive commitment). Máme-li k dispozici více než jeden možný, pravděpodobný popis zkoumané předmětné oblasti, je důvěryhodnější ten referenční rámec, který poskytuje data, jež jsou v souladu s našimi znalostmi z oblasti psychologického/neurofyziologického zpracování jazyka.

The first part of this paper shows that the objects of our scientific interest can be perceived from more than one frame of reference. It describes the fact that what we can see is in every case influenced just by the necessary presence of a chosen frame of reference. From the internal point of view, the objects percieved from the standpoints of different frames of reference are qualitatively equivalent, therefore only external criteria can decide on the choice of one particular frame. The second part illustrates what kind of these external criteria should be taken into account in case of linguistics. To find reliable external criteria, linguistics should make the so-called cognitive commitment: In the case where there is more than one reliable parallel description of the same particular field of interest, the only trustworthy frame of reference is that one, which is consistent with our knowledge from the field of psychological/neurophysiological language processing.
