Monografie se zabývá reprezentací prostoru v narativním díle a předpoklady jeho čtenářské recepce, které jsou dány nejen literárními kompetencemi, ale ovlivněny také recipientovými vlastními zkušenostmi a znalostmi jiných uměleckých forem zobrazení. Jako metodu přitom navrhuje „intermediální poetiku“, která se v souladu se záměrem práce i aktuálním badatelskými trendy opírá o podněty intermediálních a vizuálních studií. Aplikuje dále zvláště poznatky naratologické (součástí práce je i koncept perspektivy rozvíjející návrhy B. Uspenského a W. Schmida), teorie fikčních světů, strukturální poetiky recepce a poetiky historické. Manifestací konceptu intermediální poetiky v historické perspektivě je soubor interpretací české prózy, v němž jsou v analýzách narativní konstrukce prostoru současně shledávány projevy literárního modernismu a odhalovány analogie výtvarné.

The monograph inquires into the narrative representation of space and preconditions of its reception in the reader, which are determined not only by his literary competences but also influenced by his own experience and knowledge of other forms of representation in arts. „Intermedia poetics“ is suggested as the main method, which, in accordance both with the intention of the book, and with current trends of research, draws on incentives of intermedia and visual studies. It employs aspects of narratology (including a concept of narrative perspective which develops the schemes suggested by B. Uspensky and W. Schmid), possible worlds theory, structuralist poetics of reception, and historical poetics. The concept of intermedia poetics applied from historical perspective is manifested in a set of interpretations of Czech fiction, which in analyzing narrative structuring of space displays symptoms of literary modernism as well detecting analogies with visual arts at the same time.
