OESRED, the semi-automatic reduction code for Ondřejov Echelle Spectrograph

  • 1. Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Fričova 298, 251 65 Ondřejov, Czech Republic

Description

OESRED is a versatile and semi-automatic data reduction pipeline developed for the Ondřejov Echelle Spectrograph (OES) within the IRAF framework. Designed with flexibility and control in mind, OESRED empowers astronomers with a tool that simplifies and streamlines the complex process of reducing spectroscopic data while still is providing complete oversight at every step.

Key Features:

  • Efficient Workflow: OESRED offers a comprehensive workflow that covers all aspects of data reduction, from calibration to extraction, continuum fitting, cosmic ray removal, and more.
  • Precise Calibration: The pipeline includes options for flat-field correction, comparison lamp identification using a database of line identification, and zero-level corrections, ensuring the accurate calibration of your data.
  • Cosmic Ray Removal: OESRED implements the LACOS (LArge Cosmic ray Originating Signal) algorithm, allowing for the practical identification and removal of cosmic rays in object spectra.
  • Customization: Users have control over calibration and reduction parameters, including continuum fitting functions, order, and aperture fitting functions, ensuring adaptability to various observational setups.
  • Heliocentric Correction: For precise astronomical timing, OESRED provides the option to calculate the Heliocentric Julian Dates (HJD) based in the UT-MIDDLE, namely, the epoch on the middle exposure time and apply radial velocity (RV) corrections for heliocentric considerations.
  • Compatibility: OESRED is tested and compatible with the Astroconda version of IRAF, requiring essential packages such as stsdas and tables.

OESRED simplifies the data reduction process without sacrificing control, making it an invaluable tool for astronomers working with Ondřejov Echelle Spectrograph data. Its proven efficiency and adaptability make it a valuable addition to any researcher's toolkit in spectroscopic analysis.

Notes

The code is working and testing only for the Ondřejov Echelle Spectrograph data. Any comment is welcome to mauricio.cabezas@asu.cas.cz
