About us

Founded in 1991 Opera Historica played a major role in the modernization of early modern research in the Czech Republic after the Velvet Revolution. Since 2015 the journal has been published as a peer-reviewed biannual with articles in Czech, German and English. We accept submissions and reviews on the early modern history of Europe and America, but our focus is on Central Europe. We prefer contributions dealing with cultural history (i.e. material culture, history of ideas and religions, legal history and history of medias). The journal is also open to discussions on the methodology and historiography of early modern research. It also has a section for publishing short editions of documents.

The University of South Bohemia publishes also the book series Monographia historica, and an edition of historical documents 'Documenta res gestas Bohemicas saeculorum XVI-XVIII illustrantia - series B' (private life) and (in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences) series A (law and politics). The series is now available for international customers at ceeol.com as e-books.

The journal Opera historica is published within the frameworks of the research center 'The Habsburgs in the History of the Bohemian lands in the Early Modern Age'.
