Propagation of Gravity waves and spread F at low-latitude ionosphere
Abstract
A statistical study of propagation of small-scale and medium scale GWs and propagation of spread F at low-latitude ionosphere over one year in the in Northern Argentina, Tucuman, is presented. The study is based on multi-point observations by Continuous Doppler sounding system. The results of statistical study of GWs show that the most frequently observed horizontal velocities of GWs ranged from ~100 to ~160 m/s. A preference for meridional propagation was observed. The spread F structures propagated roughly Eastward with velocities from ~70 m/s to ~170 m/s with mean value of ~130 m/s. The results obtained by Continuous Doppler sounding are thus consistent with the published optical observations. The advantage of the Continuous Doppler sounding is that the measurement doesn’t depend on weather.
