Description in EnglishThe Kondakov Archaeological Institute in Prague did not stop its activity in the time of German occupation of Czechoslovakia in the period of the so-called Protectorate (1939–1945). In that time it was arose its collections of icons, casting metal crosses, weavings, coins and antiquarian books. The article aims to understand reasons of making these collections and to follow their future fates and to explore a provenance of artefacts which flowed in Prague. To bay masterpieces one needs money. The study also examines a problem of financial prosperity of the Archaeological Institute that started to grow in 1942 owing to the mass production and successful sale of icon printed replicas, most of which were not intended for Czech or German consumers. The author tries to establish a circle of buyers who purchased the numerous high-quality reproductions of ancient Russian wooden icons printed by the Kondakov Institute.
