AnnotationThis review essay offers a critical discussion of Ingrid M. Hoofd’s book Higher Education and Technological Acceleration: The Disintegration of University Teaching and Research (2017), providing a reflection of the current state of academia as well as the field of critical university studies. Three topics are particularly discussed in this regard: the notion of university’s “auto-immunity” regarded by Hoofd as the main cause of university’s contemporary pathological transformations, the impact of technological acceleration on academic enterprise, and the very possibility of criticism and radical change within contemporary academia.
