V otázce eutanazie se záležitosti medicíny prolínají s mnoha dalšími oblastmi: s oblastí sociální, etickou, právní, psychologickou, filosofickou, náboženskou a politickou. Změna paradigmatu v medicíně souvisí také s technizací medicíny a medicinalizací společnosti, jejichž důsledky jsou dvojznačné a týkají se i vztahu lékaře a pacienta. Dnešní kultura „healthismu“ ve spojení s hédonismem konzumní společnosti vede k devalvaci takového života, jenž nenaplňuje jejich představy, a vede i k požadavkům na eutanazii. Česká lékařská komora uspořádala v roce 2012 v Praze symposium „Eutanazie - pro a proti“, v následné publikaci více než 40 autorů se velká většina lékařů vyslovila proti, s důrazem na tradice lékařského povolání, princip úcty k životu a snahu o jeho udržení a zlepšování jeho kvality. Požadavek na legalizaci eutanazie představuje úsilí o další způsob medicinalizace společnosti. Description in English The main aim of the contribution is to indicate that in the disputes over euthanasia fighting for identity and competence of medicine is underway. In the issue of euthanasia medical questions are mixed up with many other spheres: social, ethical, legal, psychological, philosophical, religious, and political ones. Changing paradigm of medicine has been presented in connection with technologization of medicine and with medicinalization of society, the effects of both these attributes are ambiguous, and they concern relationship between physician and patient. The culture of “healthism” has developed, which in conjunction with hedonism of today’s consumer society tends to devalue life which does not comply with these ideas and the demands for legalisation of euthanasia are related to it. In the year 2012 the Czech Medical Chamber held in Prague a symposium “Euthanasia – for and against”, followed by a publication by more than 40 authors, most of which present arguments on the part against: The physicians typically emphasize the ethical traditions of their vocation, and the principle of respect for life, the aim to maintain life and improve its quality. Demands for legalisation of euthanasia represent efforts for another medicinalization of society.
