AnnotationThe international meeting Fresh Blood for FreshWater 2017 was primarily organized to encourage young limnologists to present their research and exchange ideas with other early career scientists. A total of 54 participants arrived from Czech Republic, European countries and Iran. Students (MSc and PhD) and post-doctoral researchers presented their work in a friendly environment with like-minded people. To fuel discussion, short talks and poster sessions were organized. A few longer talks of invited speakers – young experts in their field provided information about their work and careers, as well useful advices on how to swim in “scientific waters”. In addition to the scientific talks, there were dedicated practical and applied freshwater science workshops/seminars covering a range of topics in bacterial grazing, cyanobacteria, viruses, fish population, and food web modeling. Participants also took their chance to explore the City with our organized excursion – a great time to discover more of beautiful České Budějovice, and met other conference attendees in an informal setting. In summary, the meeting was an excellent opportunity for gaining new insights, establishing collaborations, and expanding your scientific circle and friendships.
