AnnotationAuthor proposes extending the concept of sovereignty in two ways, that is, applying it to generations as opposed to merely states and nations, and enlarging it to include not only jurisdictional but also effective (political) sovereignty. There is explored the extent to which it is plausible to claim that the jurisdictional sovereignty of a generation can be restricted. Finally, author examines the connections between adjustments in generational sovereignty and the degree of intergenerational fairness, solidarity, and of long-termism to which this is likely to lead.
