The results of jar tests with BSA/HA mixtures and with single compounds (HA or BSA) were compared. For the BSA/HA mixture, the removal rates were higher and dose of coagulant substantially lower than for coagulation of single HA indicating the positive effect of BSA-HA interactions on coagulation. BSA/HA mixture coagulated even in the absence of coagulant at pH < 4.5. The results showed that increases in organic content in source water due to the release of algae products may not necessarily entail deterioration of the coagulation process and a rise in coagulant demand.
