Description in English The preparation and characterization of microplastic particles of the five most commonly used plastics: polyethylene, polyamide, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene glycol terephthalate and polystyrene were carried out. The microplastic particles were prepared by abrading commonly available plastics to make their properties as close as possible to actual microplastics found in the environment. Characterization of the prepared particles was performed by scanning electron microscopy and Raman and infrared spectroscopy. The characterised particles were used as simulated contamination in the tested waters. A methodology was developed to determine the number of microplastic particles present in the simulated water samples, including the possibility of removing them using sorbents based on natural bentonites and zeolites. The efficiency of the sorbents was optimized by modification through the insertion of different functional groups. Degradation by UV irradiation with a medium-pressure mercury lamp was also simulated on the prepared microplastic particles, providing information on the changes in the structure of the different types of plastics depending on the length of exposure.
