The results show that substances such as PFASs, PCBs, PAHs, pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors, or hormones are sufficiently removed at a temperature higher than 600 °C, confirmed both on the laboratory and application scales. Such sludge chars, formed at temperatures above 600 °C from the sludge with low heavy metal content, no longer pose a risk to the environment compared to sludge. Properly operated pyrolysis units are part of the sewage sludge treatment chain, especially in areas with smaller sludge production.
