Description in English
The COMPASS tokamak (R = 0.56 m, a = 0.2 m, BT = 1.3 Tesla, Ip ~ 300 kA, pulse duration 0.4 s), in which the plasma cross section has a shape similar to the plasma cross section in the ITER installation, operates in the H-mode mode with boundary localized modes of the first type. In 2019 it is planned to install in the tokamak divertor a test target made on the basis of a capillary-porous structure filled with liquid metal (lithium or tin). This single target will be mounted obliquely to the toroidal field so that the heat flux affecting its surface is of the same magnitude as expected in the ITER reactor (20 MW/m2). Based on accurately measured real heat fluxes, a simulation (for a 45° tilt angle of the target and without taking into account lithium vapor shielding of the target) has been conducted, which shows that during 120 ms of target exposure in standard H-mode mode with boundary localized modes (ELMs), when heat fluxes to the target surface reach hundreds of MW/m2, the target surface temperature rises to 700°C. Significant lithium evaporation is expected. The target surface will be studied using spectroscopic methods and high-speed optical and infrared video cameras. The scientific program for future experiments includes studies of operational issues (re-deposition of evaporated metal, droplet sputtering, if observed), as well as studies of physical processes in plasma (improved plasma confinement, power threshold for L-H junction, effective plasma charge Zeff, etc.). After 2024 it is planned to install a closed liquid metal diverter on the upgraded COMPASS Upgrade tokamak (R = 0.84 m, a = 0.3 m, BT = 5 Tesla, Ip = 2 MA, Pin = 8 MW, pulse duration ~2 s), where the thermal loads on the entire toroidal diverter will match the thermal loads expected in the ITER tokamak.Workplace Institute of Plasma Physics Contact Vladimíra Kebza, kebza@ipp.cas.cz, Tel.: 266 052 975 Year of Publishing 2023 Electronic address https://elibrary.ru/item.asp?doi=10.1134/S0367292118070028
