Stručně je zde pojednáno o vzdělání tesařů a jejich cechovní organizaci. Následují ukázky tesařského nářadí od jednotlivých druhů seker k hoblíkům a pilám, nescházejí zde ani potřebné měřické pomůcky: krokvice, úhelník, kružidlo apod., a rovněž rudníky a kolovrátky pro vytvoření linky na kmeni, podle níž jej pak tesaři otesali. Mezi významná a dodnes obdivovaná tesařská díla patří krovové konstrukce. Na výstavě jsou k vidění modely příčných vazeb našeho nejstaršího krovu z roku 1319 nad presbytářem kostela františkánského kláštera v Chebu a největšího pozdně gotického krovu z roku 1536 nad trojlodím kostela sv. Jakuba Většího v Jihlavě. Také je zde k vidění model části krovu z roku 1484 nad presbytářem kostela sv. Ducha v Hradci Králové. Práci tesařů se snaží přiblížit dioráma tesařské ohrady uvedené doprovodným textem na protějším panelu, kde jsou shrnuty také základní informace o dřevu jako stavebním materiálu. Použití různých druhů dřev na stavbách zde prezentuje exponát 'xylofonu'. Patrně poprvé jsou právě na této výstavě každému zájemci o tradiční tesařské řemeslo názorně představeny stopy opracování vybranými druhy seker (tzv. trasologie). Právě stopy zanechané tradičními řemeslnými postupy určují charakter a jedinečnost historických konstrukcí. Ty se však dnes, při opravách památek moderními postupy, často vytrácejí. Description in English The exhibition aims to present the story of the carpenter’s craft from selected aspects. It briefly describes carpenter training and their guild organization. Examples of carpentry tools follow, from individual types of axe to planes and saws, as well as the necessary measuring aids: the archipendulum, the try square, the compass, and the chalk line with reel and red chalk box which were used to draw a line on the log along which the carpenter hewed. Roof structures are significant and still admired examples of carpentry skills. The exhibition shows models of the main transversal trusses used in the oldest existing Czech timber roof from 1319, located above the presbytery of the church of the Franciscan monastery in Cheb, and the largest late Gothic truss from 1539, located above the three-nave of the Church of St. James the Greater in Jihlava. There is also a model of part of the roof frame from 1484, located above the presbytery of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Hradec Králové. The work of carpenters is illustrated in a diorama of a carpentry yard, with accompanying text provided on the opposite panel, where basic information about wood as a building material is also presented. The various species of wood used in construction are illustrated in a 'xylophone' exhibit. Perhaps for the first time, this exhibition presents the typical tool marks made by select types of axe for everyone interested in traditional carpentry. It is these traces left by traditional carpentry procedures that determine the character and uniqueness of historical structures, traces which often disappear, however, when monuments are repaired using modern procedures.
