AnnotationWe present an explicit local time stepping for accurate finite element modelling of elastic wave propagation in heterogeneous bars. The main trouble of classical explicit time integration
based on the central difference in time with combination with the spatial discretization by finite element method is existence of numerical stress spurious oscillations and sensitivity of results
on chosen time step size. The nominated time scheme is based on local time stepping with local time step size for each finite element and pullback interpolation of local displacements on the
global level. The scheme is explicit and of second order. In this contribution, we shown the results for wave propagation in heterogeneous bars as layered and graded bars.
