AnnotationThe objective of the present study is to evaluate the effect of Al-Zn mixed oxides supports on HDS activity of NiMo catalysts. ZnO as a basic support could favor interactions with the acidic Mo precursor species at the catalyst surface. It is expected that these acid-base interactions will promote formation a highly dispersed MoS2 phase after sulphidation step. Additionally, Zn2+ can occupy the tetrahedral sites of alumina, thus diminishing the amount of Ni2+ or Co2+ in tetrahedral positions, which are known to be inactive in hydrotreating reactions.
