Mostly inorganic (iHg) and methyl mercury (MeHg) are bound. One of the most efficient and specific for MeHg extractions is application of 2M HCl [1]. The enzymatic extraction needs milder conditions, and might be used for extraction of organic toxins [2]. We present the results of acidic and enzymatic extraction of mercury species from hair reference material IAEA-086 obtained by HPLC-ICP-MS as a reference method.
