AnnotationHair is known to store the toxic compounds absorbed by living creature. Mostly inorganic (iHg) and methyl mercury (MeHg) are bound. One of the most efficient and specific for MeHg extractions is application of 2M HCl [1]. The enzymatic extraction needs milder conditions, and might be used for extraction of organic toxins [2]. We present the results of acidic and enzymatic extraction of mercury species from hair reference material IAEA-086 obtained by HPLC-ICP-MS as a reference method.
