AnnotationA study on the problem of inconsistency between theological determinism on the one hand and freedom of the will on the other in a renowned Thomist at the turn of the 17th century. It exhibits presuppositions of Alvarez’s solution, its context and arguments. It arrives at the conclusion that from the point of view of libertarian freedom, Alvarez’s compatibilist solution is not satisfactory.
