I když Hartmann z pozice hodnotové etiky usiluje ve svém díle Etika (1926) o překonání etického a axiologického relativismu, přesto se v mnohém pozitivně vztahuje k Nietzscheho myšlenkám. Nietzsche je pro Hartmanna prvním filosofem, který jasně položil otázku po obsahu dobra a zla nezávisle na tradici. V ctnosti, jež obdarovává, vidí Hartmann ztělesnění hodnoty duševní plnosti, která ve svém dávání nemá žádný další účel. Ctnost, jež obdarovává tedy dává jinak než například láska k bližnímu. Darující nedává nic, co by někdo „potřeboval“, on rozdává, poněvadž nedokáže jednat jinak. Zároveň je ale darující odkázán na to, že obdarovávaný je schopen tento dar přijmout. Description in English The essay presents the motif of the bestowing virtue from Nietzsche’s Zarathustra in the light of Nicolai Hartmann’s (1882-1950) ethical thinking. Even though Hartmann in his work Ethics (1926) attempts at overcoming the ethical and axiological relativism from the position of the ethics of value, he nevertheless relates positively to Nietzsche’s thoughts in many ways. For Hartmann, Nietzsche is the first philosopher to clearly question the content of good and evil regardless of the tradition. Hartmann sees in the bestowing virtue the embodiment of the value of spiritual plentitude which has no other purpose of its giving. The bestowing virtue thus gives in a different manner from for example the love of neighbour. The giver gives nothing that one might “need”: he gives away because he cannot do otherwise. And yet the giver is reliant on the givee’s ability to receive the gift.
