AnnotationThree types of silicate glasses containing different amounts of ZnO and RE ions (Er and Yb) were doped with silver using two methods – ion implantation and ion exchange. We confirmed that an increase in the amount of ZnO leads to an increase of erbium luminescence intensity at 1.5 μm and that the presence of Ag+ ions had the same effect. The increase of luminescence intensity is closely connected with the concentration of silver in the glass matrix.
