Příslušníci jesuitského řádu z jiných zemí však byli nuceni vstoupit do portugalských služeb. Na Východ tak vyplouvali přes Portugalsko a museli mít portugalský pas. Portugalsko nicméně brzy nebylo schopno řešit nedostatek kněží v misiích, a to jak z vlastních sil, tak pomocí jesuitů z jiných zemí. Jednou z možností bylo začít vysílat do Číny kněží ze španělsky mluvících mendikantských řádů (dominikáni, františkáni a augustiniáni), tedy pod patronací španělského patronata, a to i proti vůli Portugalců. Description in English Since the mid-16th century, the Portuguese Jesuits had come to China, but given the small number of Portuguese people, the Portuguese government had to soon use missionaries of other nationalities. However, members of the Jesuit order from other countries were forced into the Portuguese service. In the East, they sailed across Portugal and had to have a Portuguese passport. Portugal, however, was soon unable to solve the lack of priests in missions, both from its own power and from the Jesuits of other countries. One possibility was to send to China priests from the Spanish-speaking Mendicant orders (the Dominicans, the Franciscans and the Augustinians), under the patronage of the Spanish patron, even against the will of the Portuguese.
