While the capacitance measurements provide information about the total width of the space charge region (SCR) the surface photovoltaic effect brings information only about the part of the SCR where electric field is sufficiently high to cause dissociation. For determination of the dissociation energy it is sufficient to find the electric potential in the SCR where the process starts.
