AnnotationFrom the point of view of ecocriticism the article tries to analyse the role of nature in the writings of Tamil Dalits. It deals with the aesthetics of Dalit literature and the attitude of Dalit writers towards metaphors and other figures of speech. The article argues that nature plays a marginal role in Dalit literature. In contrast to mainstream writing it is not used as a description of beauty in a symbolic or metaphorical way. Rather it is an instrument used to express and underline the miseries and hardships of Dalits. Further, the article comments on the values associated with the most frequently mentioned natural phenomena in the selected extracts.
