AnnotationRice is an important food source for a large percentage of the world's population, but it does contain relatively high concentrations of iAs due to the uptake of As from the soil and water in which the rice plants are grown. Available As from soils can be both naturally occurring and due to anthropogenic sources such as As-based pesticides that were widely used until the 1970s. Clearly there is an urgent food-safety requirement for a simple and quick analytical method to screen large numbers of rice and other food samples for iAs. In this study, a fast and sensitive method using hydride generation (HG) with ICP-QQQ is described for the separation and detection of iAs in commercial rice samples.
