Description in English The chapter is dealing with a considerable change of remembrance politics between the end of 18th century (when Comenius' editions were used for the performance of particular - especially religious - practices) and the 1820s (when František Palacký wrote his canonical first Czech biography of Comenius). The author draws attention to the polyvalence of post-Enlightenment representations of Comenius, connecting the earlier scholarly and locally patriotic point of view with newly established national perspectives. From 1790 onwards, a new field of meaning was created linking the figure of Comenius with normatives of the Czech language that was a crucial point of interest for the emerging Czech national movement. After the turn of century, Comenius entered the Czech historical narrative and his individual fate became a synecdoche of the 'fate of the nation' after the Battle of the White Mountain.
