AnnotationThe effect of the branching and introduction of a cyclic alkyl group in a novel set of 1-alkyl-3-butylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ionic liquids (ILs) on selected physico-chemical properties is reported on in this contribution. A linear 1‐pentyl‐3‐butylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide [C4C5Im][Tf2N], branched 1‐isopentyl‐3‐butylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide [C4iC5Im][Tf2N], and an IL with a cyclic group 1‐cyclopentyl‐3‐butylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide [C4cC5Im][Tf2N] were synthesized for the first time in this study to elucidate their structure-property relationships. Due to the great variability in structure, ionic liquids attract increasing interest and have an application potential in many domains. To design and optimize processes it is necessary to understand the studied compounds both on the macro- and microscale.
