AnnotationIn capillary isoelectric focusing carried out in tapered capillaries, several times higher resolution of ampholytes can be obtained as compared with the resolution of the respective pair of ampholytes in conventional cylindrical capillaries. The tapered fused-silica capillaries were reproducibly prepared by etching with supercritical water, and they open the way to increase the number of separable compounds without resorting to excessively high voltage.
