AnnotationThis chapter reviews another technique of creating self-assembled and self-organized polymeric nanoparticles - controlled phase separation approach. Such approach exploits mutual interactions of a polymers and surface active molecules (surfactants or amphiphilic block copolymers) in a common solvent. We shall explore particularly dilute systems where various types of nanoparticles will be investigated. The nanoparticles will be studied keeping in mind their possible applications, especially for biological purposes - encapsulation and delivery of active substances in the case of particles and immobilization. The common approach applied to all types of physical systems described below is based on controlling the extent of macrophase separation that occurs in a mixture of two compounds (solvent and polymer) that became immiscible or incompatible as a result of a change of an external variable. This parameter can be temperature, pH or addition of an another solvent.
